The charity walk for women and girls of all ages, on Saturday, July 8, is a five-mile or new 10-mile themed sponsored walk along Exmouth seafront with entertainment provided along the route.

Entry to the popular event is now officially open.

Funds raised through the Twilight Walk will support the work of Hospiscare, a local charity, providing free care and support to people with a progressive life-limiting illness, and those close to them.

A Twilight Walk spokeswoman said: “Back in 2010, a group of ladies called Mary’s Promise walked.

“Mary’s daughter, Helen Pike, and Mary’s close friend, Jenny Hill, formed the group to help raise money for Hospiscare, who cared for Mary at her home.

“In 2010, Mary waved the group off at the start. The next year, when the group walked again, Mary was too poorly to see them off, so her husband cheered the team on instead.

“Every year since then, the Mary’s Promise team has done the walk in Mary’s memory.”

Mary’s Promise team member Christine McMullen said: “It’s such an amazing event. I didn’t know what to expect the first year, but it was just brilliant. It’s such a lovely tradition to remember Mary by.

“We have been doing it for seven years now and, so far, have raised over a couple of thousand pounds.

“None of us knows when we or one of our family might need help from Hospiscare. It’s so important to support this local charity.”
