EAST Devon Olympic rider Mary King is celebrating tonight because the British eventing team is in bronze medal position ahead of tomorrow's final show jumping phase.

With just eight points separating the top ten, there is everything to play for.

Mary, who runs a competition yard in Salcombe, near Sidmouth, is among the top ten riders - where scores are tight.

At the end of today's cross-country phase Mary and her horse Call Again Cavalier finished in joint 5th position - with a score of 56.10.

She faced the worst conditions on the challenging cross-country course - setting off in heavy rain.

Mary said: "I went as quickly as I could. My horse is a relentless galloper but hasn't got the wizzy gallop of a thoroughbred.

"I kept to tight lines wherever I saw an opportunity and cut inside everyone else's hoof prints. My only sticky moment was at the second last but I wasn't going to let him run out.

"I was very emotional at the end and just looked to the sky and thought 'aren't I lucky to be doing this.'

"Call Again Cavalier is a great jumper and whatever happens tomorrow, the best horse will win."
