Children at Marpool Primary School were inspired to explore Exmouth after reading a book.
Year one pupils went on a mission to discover types of shops and features the town centre has after being taught author Alice Melvin’s story, The High Street, which tells of a girl named Sally who visits a number of shops.
Year one teacher Leanne Caldock said: “The shopkeepers were so generous with their time and expertise and really made the trip one to remember.
“The children in year one will look forward to using this knowledge to create their own stories in the style of The High Street.”
