Budding gymnasts from two Exmouth schools have been testing themselves against teams from across the UK.

Teams from Marpool Primary School and Bassett’s Farm Primary School recently took part in the national finals in Stoke-on-Trent.

The two schools, along with Exeter Road, are part of a federation called the Avocet Learning Trust.

After coming through regional competitions, the teams finished 11th and 14th overall in the national contest.

A boys’ team from the two schools also ranked as the seventh best in the country for their group routine.

Rachel Pattison, headteacher from Marpool School expressed her pride in the achievement.

She said: “It was brilliant, I am really proud. All of our teams were pure schools’ groups.

“They attend school gymnastics sessions and the people they came up against are of a high class.

“What I was really pleased about was that we held our heads high.

“For me there should be an opportunity to explore a range of athletic experiences.

“Gymnastics is not one that children get to experience at that level.”
