brooke coffee: A charity coffee morning and sale is being held in Topsham.

The Brooke Topsham Supporters’ Group is holding the event at Matthews Hall this Saturday, October 15, between 10am and 12 noon.

Refreshments, bring and buy, bric-a-brac, books, cakes and Christmas cards will available to buy, and a grand draw will be held.

Proceeds from the event will go to The Brooke to help with their work supporting working animals.

nature talk: A talk on nature in the remotest parts of the country is being held in Topsham.

‘The Outer Hebrides and a few innards’ will be given by Richard Hargreaves, and is being hosted by the Topsham Birdwatching and Naturalists Society.

It takes place at Matthews Hall tomorrow (October 14) at 7.30pm. Admission is free for members, �3 for non members.

eden trip: A Topsham charity is running a trip to the Eden Project in Cornwall.

The Estuary League of Friends is running the trip on October 18. It will cost �28, and travellers will be picked up from their homes.

boat talk: Maritime enthusiasts will want to set sail for a talk on boats, which is being held by the Topsham Society.

‘Dhows, Junks and other boats’ is being given by founder and director of Exeter Maritime Museum David Goddard.

The talk takes place at Matthews Hall this evening (October 13). Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start, and refreshments will be available.

Admission is free to society members, �2 for non members.

help diabetes Uk: A charity coffee morning is being held in aid of Diabetes UK.

It is being run by the charity’s Exeter and District Voluntary Group this Saturday, October 15, between 9.45am and 12.15pm.

Along with coffee and other refreshments, a raffle and gift stalls will be available.

keep in tune: A harmony singing workshop is being held in Topsham.

Alison Whittall, leader of Ploughcapella Community Choir from North Devon, will be leading the workshop themed around autumn.

The workshop is open to ages 12 and up, and takes place at Matthews Hall on October 16. Songs will be taught by ear and refreshments will be provided, although singers should bring lunch.

shackleton lecture: An East Devon photographer is giving an illustrated lecture in Topsham for Hospiscare.

Lucilla Phelps, from Budleigh Salterton, will be showing pictures she took in a 2004 visit to the Antarctic, following the route taken by the explorer William Shackleton.

The lecture will take place at Matthews Hall on October 22, from 7pm.
