An Exmouth man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder.

John Western, 49, of Dinan Way, appeared at a hearing at Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Monday, and was charged with the attempted murder of Peter O’Shaughnessy.

He was also charged with two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm against Jane Western and Miles Harrison, breaching a restraining order against Jane Western and Peter O’Shaughnessy, and criminal damage against property belonging to Christopher Wise.

No application for bail was made, and Western, who spoke only to confirm his details, has been remanded in custody, and will appear at Crown Court on September 27.

Police had earlier said that Western had been arrested following an alleged incident at a property in Bystock Road.
