Fire crews raced to tackle a malicious fire started in one of the wards at Exmouth Hospital.

The incident at 12.18am on Monday, May, 2 (yesterday) saw Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service send two appliances from Exmouth.

A service spokesperson said the fire involved a privacy curtain.

The curtain was removed to the open air, before being extinguished with one hose reel jet.

Crews then used a fan to clear smoke from the ward.

The fire service spokesperson confirmed there was no other damage than to the curtain, and that no one was injured.

The spokesperson added the crews had concluded the fire had been started maliciously.
