may i applaud the comments made by the student in the Journal of July 17, headed "Time to embrace change in town".It was so refreshing to read, at long last, some sensible comments towards the proposals being considered in Exmouth. I, like the writer, have lived in the town for approximately 20 years. The young person's comments were, in my view, spot on.It was right to point out that, if there are 11,000 objections to the asda proposal, we must assume the remaining - ie the majority - are in favour of the much-needed competition to Tesco and Somerfield. Not just for competitive price and choice, but also to reduce the queues at the checkouts, alongside the much-needed improvements we so desperately need in Exmouth.Unlike the writer, I am from a different generation, having brought up a family in Exmouth, but my views are the same - if something is not done, it is our children's generation, as well as ourselves, that will suffer. However, young people are our future and it is about time we listened.Gerald Bishop,of Exmouth.
