MILITARY officials have launched an investigation after a Royal Marine ambulance on Wednesday morning overturned while being driven along a busy road near Woodbury.

Traffic ground to a halt when the heavy-duty vehicle turned onto its side, blocking the busy B3179 at Broadway.

Three marines were taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital following the crash and were released suffering from minor injuries.

It took about an hour to recover the vehicle from the road.

Royal Marine spokesman warrant officer Dave Fradley said the vehicle was one of two travelling to Woodbury Common for a training exercise.

He said those involved had been taken to hospital as a precaution and their next of kin were informed.
