A LORRY carrying building supplies shed load in Station Road after negotiating a corner near Elmside. The lorry was on its way to the Carters' development, in Brook Road, where it was to drop off material at the building site. But on the way, three large concrete slabs fell from the lorry, landing on the pavement close to the bus stop.Onlooker Daphne Williams said the impact of the falling concrete made nearby houses shake."The three slabs speared into the pavement and sliced across where people could well have been fatefully standing to wait for the bus," she said.Harry Carter, of Carter Properties, said he believed the slabs slipped from the lorry as it negotiated the bend by the traffic calming bollards."I have always found it difficult to go around those bollards because it seems there are always parked cars in front of them," said Mr Carter. "I am just thankful that no one was standing on the pavement - because they could have been quite badly injured.
