EXMOUTH police are warning residents to secure their property in a bid to crackdown on crime.

Recent reports show the Devon and Cornwall force is the third safest place to live in the UK.

But the warning comes ahead of the summer months when officers say opportunist thieves are at large.

Brixington neighbourhood beat manager PC Dave Evans said: "It is still important to reduce the chances of becoming the victim of opportunist crime.

"Ensure that sheds and outbuildings are locked and secured.

"Also that pedal cycles are secure chained and secured when left unattended.
