PROUD Littlemead pensioners got their hands dirty tidying up trees on their estate - and are calling on fellow residents for help.

Five members of the Residents Association, which includes Roundhouse Lane, spent last Friday weeding, lining and then gravelling the bases of nine of the estate's 35 trees.

The trees had weeds of up to two-feet tall growing around them, and they hoped the County would clean them up - but they decided to do it themselves.

Secretary of the Residents Association Association Elaine Williams said they had leafleted 100 residents and advertised the event on the side of the number 90 bus.

"We were a little disappointed more people didn't turn out to help," she said.

"We got nine trees cleared up and we have another 23 to go, and we were hoping to get a few more done.

"Thank you to Greenfingers and King's Garden Centres for supplying the lining, gravel, limning and weed killer."

The County council also weed sprayed the roads around the estate.

The next clean up will be advertised in the Journal and if you want to help call Elaine on: (01395) 223575.
