An Exmouth primary school has been recognised for its ‘outstanding’ contribution towards developing outdoor learning environments.

At the South West in Bloom Awards, Littleham Primary School was shortlisted for the Clem Preece Memorial Trophy for ‘outstanding school effort’.

The school also received an outstanding award in the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ category.

Head of learning Sarah Padbury said: “This is wonderful recognition of just how far the school has come in developing outdoor learning environments.

“The children, staff and volunteers couldn’t more proud of the winning accolades affirming that their school garden is one of the best.

“To receive awards is wonderful but the real prize is seeing the difference learning in the natural environment makes to the children.

“Enabling children to develop life long skills of growing their own food or simply exploring a garden for relaxation benefits are life long lessons that really do keep on growing.”
