FIVE school children were awarded their martial arts black belts recently at Littleham Leisure Centre.
Kayleigh Williams, 15, Alastair Williams, 10,Willam Jones, 14 Nick Feduzi, 10 and Ben Armstead, 10, where awarded their junior black belts in Kenpo-ryu - a Japanese martial art - following a gruelling grading.
All five youngsters are pupils of Master Phil Cawood at 3 K Martial Arts and had trained for up to five-and-a-half years for the chance.
They had to perform a series of fixed exercises called 'katas' to prove their competence and also demonstrate their knowledge and ability to spar.
Master Cawood 7th dan said: "We don't give black belts away, they have been training hard and been dedicated for more than five years."
Classes are on Thursday nights and Sundays.
