Litter deterrent

PUBLISHED: 07:00 29 November 2013

I fail to see the point of the ‘litter in The Stand’ exercise carried out in Exmouth last weekend. Everyone in Exmouth is aware of the problem.

Those who are unwilling to enjoin with the town’s community spirit will continue to drop litter uncaringly and indiscriminately; and those who dispose of their litter responsible will continue to do so.

The factor which needs to be entertained is the enforceable deterrent: ie, if you are caught littering there will be a fine to pay, either ‘on the spot’ or via a court summons. This should apply equally to the dog fouling problem.

The onus, therefore, is on the local council to provide enforcement officers, for whom, one assumes, one has paid council tax?
