Bravo to Graham Kirby (Journal, October 30) for voicing his thoughts regarding the proposed Asda development. It is about time that an Exmothian of standing put their thoughts into print and I applaud Mr Kirby for doing so. He is an individual who has helped shape our town over a good many years and it is a shame that other similar people do not write in with their own thoughts and ideas as to how we move this development forward. Townsfolk, please take note of one comment from Mr Kirby. If we do not move ahead with the plans, it could be another 30 years before any such plans are approved! Finally, I would just like to ask a rhetorical question to the scribes who keep lamenting all the shops closing down in Exmouth. When did they last frequent some of the shops which have closed? If a shop is good enough and offers exceptional service and goods at realistic prices, it will prosper. Too many shops open without any market research and then wonder why they do not make money. The formula is easy: give the consumer what they want at prices they can afford and this equals happy shoppers and happy shopkeepers. Jon Watson,(via email).
