East Devon Liberal Democrats have chosen Paul Buchanan, a Somerset councillor from the Blackdown Hills near Chard, as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the next General Election.Paul succeeds Tim Dumper who fought at the last two General Elections.Paul Buchanan is an award winning local politician having won Politician of the Year 2006 for championing the environment. He is also a member of Sustainability South West and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Commenting on his selection, Paul said: "I am very grateful to the members of the East Devon Constituency for selecting me as their new PPC. There are many issues facing East Devon that deserve an MP who is going to stand up for the people of this constituency and not be led by big business interests. "It is our work here in the constituency on the ground that marks the Lib Dems out from the Tories in East Devon. We believe that the people of this constituency should have a say in their future rather than be dictated to as we are now."Tim Dumper said: "Paul is a man of strong liberal principles, who I am sure will work very hard on behalf of all the people in East Devon. "He has my full support, and I hope he will become the first ever Liberal Democrat MP here.
