Is it true that the proposed Longboat Cafe redevelopment will join the Great Wall of China as the only man-made objects visible from outer space? One might easily believe it based on recent newspaper letters and mailshots from the NIMBYs (not in my backyard) in Marine Parade. And will granting the Longboat planning permission result in McDonald's planting their golden arches at the site of the Steamer Steps?Very possibly, if you believe the words spoken by one of our elected officials at last week's council planning meeting.Come on Budleigh - get real! The demographic of the town is changing, as more young families settle here and many would welcome the enhanced facilities contained in the Longboat plan. I fear, however, that these views are not sufficiently taken into account by those currently 'running' the town.Whatever the pros and cons of this planning proposal, can we please have an intelligent debate on the subject and take soundings from all parts of the community without being side-tracked by the rantings of NIMBYs and numpties.
