An East Devon teenager is putting her best foot forward for cancer research this month on a sponsored 12-mile walk from Exmouth to Sidmouth.
Lauren Squire will be stepping out from the seafront on Monday, October 26.
The 14-year-old is a great niece of Sidmouth journalist Kingsley Squire, who was diagnosed, in July, with terminal pancreatic cancer.
Lauren said: “I was very upset when my grandmother died from cancer and when mum told me about Kingsley, I just felt I had to do something.”
With a target of raising £100 for the charity Pancreatic Cancer Action, Lauren hopes her sponsored walk to Sidmouth, along the uphill and downhill coastal path, will not prove too much of a challenge.
But she’s putting in some training just to make sure.
A recent all-afternoon fundraiser organised by Kingsley’s friends, raised more than £3,500 in support of the mission to save lives by raising public awareness of the symptoms of pancreatic cancer, known as one of the most lethal of all cancers.
