Amended plans for the extension of Brixington Community Church have been supported by town planners.

The planning application for the church, in Churchill Road, has been altered to clarify the retention of a footpath, and also shows an increase in the height of a privacy screen.

Exmouth Town Council’s planning committee supported the amendment at its most recent meeting.

Councillor Cherry Nicholas said the church had moved to clarify that a footpath by the church, running between Elwood Road and Churchill Road, would be kept open.

She said: “Elwood Road residents said they were worried because [the plan drawing suggested] they were planning to take the footpath away. That’s why this has come through it will keep that open.”

The church received planning permission for a new, much larger building in 2014, but has since come back with a smaller proposal.

East Devon District Council will have the final say on planning permission.
