Inspired by their teacher’s dreams of taking part in the London Marathon, youngsters from Lady Seaward’s Primary School completed their own running challenge.

Pupils from the Clyst St George school were challenged to between them reach a total of 26.2 miles – the distance of a marathon – ahead of a teacher entering the London race next month.

The children gained around £1,200 in sponsorship ahead of the challenge, all of which is going to the National Deaf Children’s Society.

The pupils taking part smashed their target and ran the length of four marathons as a school – more than 100 miles.

A spokesman for the school said the total showed ‘unbelievable’ effort and determination, adding: “The day was great fun and showed the perseverance of all children towards achieving our common goal as well as celebrating the idea of exercise and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”
