Archant

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn declared Exmouth ‘a nice spot’ after dropping in to a seafront cafe for a pot of tea and slice of cake while holidaying locally with his wife.

Leila Farmanieh, 30, and her brother Ashton, 23, of Aby’s Catering, on The Esplanade, were surprised to find a famous face among their Tuesday morning customers.

Leila said the Labour leader ordered lemon cake and a pot of tea, while his wife, Laura Alvarez, opted for eggs on toast.

“He’s on holiday; he said it’s a nice spot here,” said Leila.

“They were lovely. We don’t know why they chose our place, but we are so happy they came in. All the customers are talking about it.”
