Plans have been submitted to East Devon District Council to transform the King Billy, High Street, into a shop and self contained flat.

Budleigh Salterton could be set to lose one of its pubs if a change of use application is granted.

A planning proposal to change the King Billy, High Street, into a shop has been submitted to East Devon District Council (EDDC).

This would leave Budleigh with just two pubs – The Salterton Arms and The Feathers – as well as the Dog and Donkey in Knowle Village.

The application also includes a provision to form a self-contained flat in the building.

The design and access statement said the proposal will not seek to change the appearance of the property and will be in ‘harmony’ with the immediate area.

Despite ‘external alteration’ being included in the plan, it is also being claimed that the shop front will remain unaltered.

Budleigh Salterton Town Council will be consulted on the application before EDDC makes the final decision.
