A junior doctor from Topsham is raising funds for the town’s outdoor pool renovation fund by taking on The Scilly Swim.
Victoria Ormerod will next month swim 15k and run 10k as she makes her way between and across each of the six Scilly Isles.
Victoria, who is training in anaesthetics and intensive care at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, is using the community pool to train up to three times a week, while also squeezing in sea swims at Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth.
Victoria, a keen pool swimmer, is new to sea swimming - with The Scilly Swim expected to be a tough test.
Victoria said: “I decided to support Topsham Pool as I love outdoor pools and feel they help bring small communities together, for all ages and abilities.
“I’m full of admiration for the volunteers that allow this pool to operate, and despite not being at a stage in my life where I can donate time to volunteer, I want to donate in another way to help the pool to continue.”
Andrea Veale, of the Topsham Pool committee, said: “We’re so grateful to Victoria for her support and really hope that people will get behind her. If you’re thinking you’d like to donate to our fund, what better way to do it than supporting this sponsored challenge.”
The pool committee is aiming to raise £100,000 for repairs.
