A Littleham pensioner, who recently won a cash competition in the Journal, has hailed her victory as a 'lovely surprise'.

Vida Phillips, 83, of Bidmead Close, entered a competition run by the Journal, in association with Camelot, with a £1,000 cash prize.

Entrants had to collect three of four tokens printed weekly in the Journal and buy a lotto ticket. Then they simply had to copy the ticket reference number onto the Journal’s competition form and enter a draw.

A winner was drawn at random and Mrs Phillips, who has lived in Littleham for more than 15 years, was chosen as the lucky winner. She has not decided what she is going to use for money for, but said it would be going to ‘good use’.

Mrs Phillips said: “It was a lovely surprise when I found out I had won. I always get the Journal regularly and I always enter the competitions - but I don’t expect to win.”
