Two items from last week's edition concern and amuse me. 1) Page six, column five, "Keep Warm". Three weeks ago, my kitchen boiler was closed down by British Gas.I have signed for a new one from the highly recommended Westmancoat - installation November 17; in the meantime, it's colder in than out. But, good news, I qualify for the Government's Warmfront handout and I have their £300 voucher. So far so good. But, when I told Westmancoat, they said: "Good, but it's only worth £250 because there is a £50 admin' charge." Is this one of Gordon Brown's Stealth Taxes, I wonder? No reply yet from Warmfront in Gateshead. My efficient MP Hugo Swire is on the trail. Then I was drawn to your "Keep Warm" announcement from the Senior Council for Exmouth. I looked forward to their meeting on keeping warm at home. Vital for me. But, lo and behold, the meeting was on October 27! 2) Page five, Columns one to six, "Loo fury as visitors caught out". Councillor Ken Harper, as always, is right, this time about the closure of Orcombe Point toilets. But then I read Mike Bone, British Toilet Association, agreeing and saying: "Local authorities should no longer carry on at their own convenience." Kenneth Williams would have loved that. Anthony Robinson,222 Withycombe Village Road,Exmouth.
