Duo who had hit single in the 70s visit Topsham as part of their farewell tour
If the words ‘Cor baby, that’s really free’ strike a chord with you, you may want to make sure you are free on the evening of Sunday, September 16.
The unconventional music duo John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett, who had a hit with the single Really Free in 1977, are performing at Matthews Hall in Topsham as part of their farewell tour, The Final Straw.
The pair have been entertaining audiences with their original musicianship and offbeat humour for 40 years, since they recorded a series of sessions at Pete Townshend’s Eel Pie Studios, with the legendary Who guitarist contributing as arranger, producer and performer. The result was their debut album, and a memorable appearance on The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 which catapulted Really Free into the Top 30.
With Wild Willy announcing that he is calling time on the partnership to concentrate on ‘experimental projects’, this is a final chance to see the band.
