A retired couple from East Drive, Exmouth, are celebrating 60 years since they tied the knot.

Retired RAF armourer John Swallow, 90, and his wife Pat, 85, a former nurse at Exmouth Hospital, will be marking their diamond wedding anniversary next month.

The couple met at a dance in the RAFA club in Maidenhead, Berkshire, in July 1952, when John asked Pat to dance.

They married on June 5, 1954, at Cookham Church, before moving to Bridgwater in Somerset in 1963 and then Exmouth in 1968.

They will be marking the special day at the Devoncourt Hotel with 25 family members and friends.

And the secret of a successful marriage? John said: “Giving in when you have an argument!”
