Schoolgirl Jess Mitchell has been announced as the winner of an annual ice cream flavour competition in aid of Exmouth RNLI.

The nine-year-old, who goes to Brixington Academy, designed her ‘Jess’ chocolate, caramel, marshmallow flavour in the contest held by Antonio’s.

For the fourth year running, the ice cream café, in The Strand, asked schoolchildren to design a flavour in aid of the lifesaving cause.

This year’s contest was open to children from Brixington Academy and attracted more than 100 entries. Jess’s entry was short-listed along with four others before being chosen by Antonio’s owners Tony and Caroline Badcott.

Tony said: “We chose Jess’ flavour as it uses a combination of ingredients that will appeal to the majority of our customers - of all ages.

“We wanted to find a flavour that would ultimately raise the most funds for Exmouth RNLI. Last year’s flavour raised £600 throughout the season and we hope this will be popular with our customers, too.”

The new flavour is now on sale and will be available until October. A dontation, per scoop of the flavour, will go to Exmouth RNLI.

Jess was awarded a five-litre tub of the new flavour. The other four finalists were handed gift vouchers to spend at the café.
