LYMPSTONE jazz fans turned out in force and raised more than �600 for a local charity.

A capacity audience of 120 at Lympstone Village hall sat around tables and enjoyed a jazz-caf� atmosphere and the music of Duke Ellington to raise the money for Exmouth and Lympstone Hospiscare.

They listened to many of the great man's most popular numbers including Indigio and It Don't mean a thing played by Ellingtonia as many sat around candle-lit tables.

The band, whose members are all from East Devon and Exeter and in just five years have emerged as one of the leading Duke Ellington cover bands in Britain.

With doors opening at 6.45pm the banqueting soon started - and the ravenous crowd tucked into home cooked gourmet food and fine wines and a grand draw was also held in the interval.

Graham Martin from Church Path Lympstone said: "Despite being held in Lymsptone a third of those attending came from Exmouth or further.

"They are now a firm favourite with the crowds with another caf� style concert planned for Saturday December 19.

"By popular request there will be an area for some to dance."
