It’s too late, Hugo

Dear Mr Swire, MP, your A View from Westminster in this week’s Exmouth Journal has not done you or the Conservative Party any favours at all.
It has merely confirmed, in any intelligent person’s mind, that you are genuinely concerned about the threat to you of UKIP.
It also demonstrates that you, along with David Cameron, are politically inept: you probably had the safest parliamentary seat in the UK here in affluent, leafy Devon.
When you both say “no lurch to the right” you are singing out your swan song because you have completely misunderstood what your former supporters have been trying to tell you: stop being liberal and get back to conservative principles.
It is now too late because whatever you do or say, the all-important trust that you inherited after the general election has evaporated, never to return.
You are finished politically because you were too arrogant or too isolated from the real world to listen to your constituents.
The only hope for the Conservative Party and our great country is a new leader who reverses your liberal and trendy ideas, for which you had no mandate. You are no parliamentarian!
In the meantime, UKIP will do nicely thank you!
