Tesco has revealed it is to open a new Exmouth town centre store before the end of the year.

A month after Tesco refused to confirm or deny rumours that a Tesco Express was to open in Rolle Street, the supermarket giant has admitted it has taken on the lease of the former Job Centre.

The Express store, which will create 20 to 30 jobs, will be Tesco's third outlet in the town. A Tesco spokeswoman said the lease was signed at the end of August.

She said: "We feel a Tesco Express will be a positive addition to Exmouth."

The new store, which will open from 6am to 11pm, Monday to Sunday, will offer convenience foods, fresh produce, chilled foods and other groceries, as well as snacks and ready meals, a range of soft drinks, beer, wines and spirits.

The spokeswoman said: "Tesco Express is designed to bring competitive prices, improved services and better ranges, including more fresh products, to a neighbourhood.

"They are normally conveniently located close to people's homes, giving residents, who want to walk or cycle to shop, access to good daily shopping."
