Investigations take place ahead of Exmouth seafront application

Survey work is taking place on Exmouth seafront ahead of a planning application for a new watersports centre.

Developer Grenadier is planning the centre on Queen’s Drive as part of East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) proposed three-stage redevelopment.

An EDDC spokesperson said: “Grenadier have been granted a temporary licence to carry out environmental site investigations.

“Works will involve the drilling, monitoring and sampling of boreholes in accordance with an agreed method statement.

“This activity is standard practice in the run up to a planning process and the information from the investigations will be used to inform the detail of Grenadier’s planning application.”

EDDC has said a planning application is expected later this year, after a reserved matters planning application for the redevelopment was approved in April.

Campaign group Save Exmouth Seafront has called for full independent public consultation to take place ahead of any work, and questioned whether the proposed location of the watersports centre is suitable.
