A RIDER with East Devon Hunt was flown to hospital at the weekend after his horse fell and crushed his foot.Mike Hext, manager of the Kings Arms, was taking part in the annual Otterton meet on Saturday when his horse fell on Peak Hill at around 3pm.He was flown to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by Devon Air Ambulance because the land crew could not reach the hilly area.Although his foot is badly bruised, he did not break any bones.Mr Hext, speaking on Tuesday, said: "My horse jumped a jump, but caught the top of it, fell over and crushed my foot."I was taken to hospital and had to stay overnight for observation. I have been unable to move my toes for the past two days."They cannot tell if there is any severe ligaments damage yet because of the swelling, but I have a hospital appointment next week."Mr Hext said his horse, Harold, was also fine and had only "superficial" injuries.Crowds gathered at the village pub to witness the annual meet and riders and supporters enjoyed a supper there that evening.
