Almost 600 hospice supporters turned out across Exeter, Mid and East Devon for the 15th annual Hospiscare Twilight Walk.
Community members came out in force to support the local hospice charity, which cares for people and families living with terminal illnesses across the heart of Devon.
Hospiscare Event Manager, Tori Vince, said: “Every one of our Twilight Walkers was an absolute superstar and I’m delighted to report that so far the event has raised more than £30,000 for our patient care and bereavement support.
“The money raised will enable us to continue to provide free end-of-life care and make a truly huge difference to local people facing terminal illnesses.
“We want to say a huge thank you to all the brilliant people who came out to support their local hospice and express our gratitude to our wonderful event sponsors, Jurassic Fibre.”
The Twilight Walk has traditionally been one of the largest mass participation fundraising events in Devon, with almost 1000 participants coming together to walk a coastal route starting and finishing in Exmouth.
This year, participants were asked to walk a route local to them in their own groups of friends and family. Participants could download a party-themed Twilight playlist and, following the walk, there was a special set by local musician Phil Smyth.
Hospiscare nurse, Lorraine Dolley, who took part in the event with friends and colleagues as part of her hen do celebration, said: “Twilight Walk is always such a special and fun event.
“This year has been a really full-on year for everyone at the hospice and I thought, ‘What better way to get together with the girls, celebrate my hen do and support the hospice at the same time!’
“This year’s event theme was glitter and sparkle and that’s exactly what we did on the day – with the added bonus of helping to raise vital funds for our patient care.”
Anyone wanting to support the local hospice can sign up for two challenges taking place this autumn: Hospiscare’s Tour de Devon cycle challenge and the virtual London Marathon. For more information visit
