The recent snow caused problems for a number of events in Budleigh.

They included World Book Day, which was being held at the Carousel Nursery, based at the Budleigh Salterton Health and Wellbeing Hub on East Budleigh Road.

Now in its 21st year, World Book Day is described as ‘a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading’.

A Carousel Nursery spokesperson said: “Our staff and children got involved in dressing up, making tiger masks and reading a story – The Tiger Who Came to Tea – by Judith Kerr.

“Children and staff donated money towards Book Aid International, and the children received a book token for a free book.”

Unfortunately – despite all the fun that the children and staff were clearly having – this year’s event had to be cut short.

The nursery was forced to close at 1.30pm on Thursday, March 1, due to severe weather warnings.
