High dance standards from college students

SPECTACULAR footwork was on display last week as dance students at Exmouth Community College displayed their talent.Spectacular Feets 2008 showcased examination work from GCSE and A-Level students.Judy Shankster-Jones, head of dance at Exmouth Community College, said: "The evening was a big success; we had fantastic reviews from the audience, everyone said how professional the standard was and what a wonderful time they had."Seven pupils also took part in the first gifted and talented cross college initiative in Devon with students from other colleges taking part. They performed together at the Barnfield Theatre as part of EXDance at the Exeter Festival. Pupils aged 11 to 18 participated in the performance on Thursday, March 13, which included pieces choreographed by the students, staff and professional dance companies.Students have taken part in workshops with Random Dance Company, Retina Dance Company, Jane Mason and Birmingham Royal Ballet this year.Two of the students also successfully auditioned for the Devon Youth Dance Company, which performs in the region.
