Recent measures by the coalition government have prompted East Devon District Council to introduce audio recordings for key meetings held in public and make them available via their website along with all the associated papers.

In seeking to ensure accountability by councillors, transparency in decision making is seen as vital.

Having listened to the recording of the development management committee, held on November 12, I would like to congratulate Councillors Steve Hall and Tom Wright as well as the Otter Valley Association chairman and two local residents for their reasoned and well-argued opposition to a new house in Victoria Place, Budleigh Salterton, within the conservation area.

The Journal reported on EDDC’s approval on November 14, but, if you wish to know more, you can now listen to the whole proceedings and view the pictures displayed.
