I wish to comment about the comments made by Councillor Malcolm Mitchell on your front page in your Exmouth edition of October 30. I have just read the comments made by Councillor Mitchell in respect of the new proposed Lidl store at the top of Dinan Way.

I wish to comment about the comments made by Councillor Malcolm Mitchell on your front page in your Exmouth edition of October 30.I have just read the comments made by Councillor Mitchell in respect of the new proposed Lidl store at the top of Dinan Way. While I agree it will be helpful to have another store selling food and that it could benefit those residents of the surrounding areas, I do take exception to his comments regarding the residents of certain roads close by to this proposed store when he is quoted as saying: "The store will be extremely useful, especially with nearby estates where people with low incomes live: Cheshire Road, Prince of Wales Drive, Brittany Road and Normandy Close."So what gives this councillor who lives in Richmond Road the right to comment on the living standards and levels of income of residents in these areas? When I read his comments, I was outraged that someone such as a councillor, who is nothing more than an elected official, could make such derogatory remarks regarding people that he has no idea about. Why not include the residents of other surrounding areas, such as Littleham, who are just as close to this new proposed store?Councillor Mitchell should be asked to retract the quotes and apologise to all the residents in the areas he mentioned. Mr R Blyth,61 Normandy Close, Exmouth.
