HOLIDAYMAKERS and caravan owners at Devon Cliffs Holiday Park raised £1,600 for charity at a special Gala Day recently. The money will be shared between Cancer Research and The Children's Trust - two of Haven Holiday's nominated charities this year. As well as stalls, raffles and tombolas, the attractions included inflatable gladiators and sumo-wrestling contests. The fun continued into the evening with a series of special events held in Bugsy's entertainments venue on the park.Haven Funstar Ashley Krelle raised £300 by having his chest and armpits waxed on stage in front of hundreds of holidaymakers.Entertainments manager Emma O'Hara said: "It was a really good day and hundreds of our holidaymakers and caravan owners enjoyed it." The event, on Bank Holiday Monday, was organised by Danielle Sturt, who helps look after caravan owners at Devon Cliffs, and FunStar entertainer Martin Mugglestone. It was one of a series of fund-raising activities held at the resort throughout the season. Some 1,200 of the 1,800 luxury static caravans on the park are privately owned by families who go there at weekends and holidays to make regular use of the five-star facilities. The owners raise more £8,000 every year for various charities, in addition to sums raised by holidaymakers for charities nominated by Haven.
