To celebrate Abbeyfield Week, the staff and residents of Harding House, at 101 Salterton Road, would like to welcome all to their Summer Fayre, to be held in the lovely garden, weather permitting.

The event is set to take place on Saturday, June 13, from 10am to 12.30pm.

Organisers said it promises to be a fun and friendly time with a prize draw, cake stall, bric-a-brac, second-hand books, cream teas, guess the weight competition and much more! There will be plenty for all to do, and potential residents can come and meet the house manager, staff and residents and see something of the house.

The Abbeyfield (Exmouth) Society Ltd (a registered charity) owns Harding House, which offers accommodation and support to 13 residents. The building was once the Elmdene Hotel and retains the friendly ambience of a small hotel.

Anyone who is interested in the current vacancies, or in looking around the house with a view to being added to the waiting list, can ring (01395) 277404 and speak to Pauline Gilmour.

The society is also showing a display in Exmouth Library, until June 14, offering information about Abbeyfield, Harding House and how to apply to be on the waiting list.

On Monday, June 22, Exmouth Community College is holding an Active Citizenship Day, and the Abbeyfield (Exmouth) Society will have an information stand at this event. One of the committee members will be talking to groups of students about Abbeyfield, Harding House and volunteering.

Volunteers are always welcome, and the Abbeyfield (Exmouth) Society is actively looking for people with business experience to come forward for the executive committee. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer, whether on the executive committee, house committee or just visiting and spending time with the residents, is encouraged to contact Liz Flynn, the Administrator on the above telephone number.
