Exmouth Lions Club held its final meeting on Monday, June 24 – 16 years almost to the day after the club officially formed.
The president and members of our club would like to thank everyone who has helped, supported and donated to our many events over those years.
In return, we hope you have enjoyed our input into the town’s events and the donations made possible through your generosity being used to help many local good causes.
At our final meeting, we were busy emptying our accounts so at least ten local organisations will be receiving various sums of money towards their endeavours.
We would like to record our thanks to the staff of the Journal – especially Becca Gliddon and Simon Horn - for the supportive articles and photographs they have produced over the years.
Amongst others, we must thank the OC, staff and cadets of 299 Squadron ATC; Chris Wright and staff of Exmouth Fun Park plus Exmouth Fire and Rescue Service for making our Annual Duck Race such a success.
Support from several of the town’s largest stores for our ‘Santa sleigh’ is acknowledged with gratitude.
Finally, our thanks to Exmouth RAFA Club (as was), our ‘home’ for most of those 16 years.
A recent article in the Journal seems to have given the impression we ‘bounced back’ – which is not correct.
There is an attempt being made to form another Lions Club in Exmouth, which is entirely independent of, and not connected in any way with our (closing) club or any of its members. It should be pointed out that forming a new club is not a simple process, and its formation will take a lot of effort and scrutiny before permission is granted.
Ultimately, it is felt any attempt may face the same problem that resulted in our closure, a lack of members.
On behalf of us all, a big thank you.
