The village church in Colaton Raleigh has been given nearly £50,000 by the Government to repair its roof.

The Church of St John the Baptist has been awarded £46,200 from the Listed Places of Worship: Roof Repair Fund.

The money will fund repairs to the section of the roof near the chancel, protecting the decorative sgraffito on its walls, which attracts visitors from across the country.

The Reverend Mark Ward said: “We are really thrilled to have got this grant, because it helps us to maintain the church, and to care for the fabric of the church and our very fine sgraffito. It’s a very important place for our regular churchgoers and the whole community.”
