Globe twins back for birthday party
A TOPSHAM hotel, which is highly significant in the lives of three brothers, is to play host to a birthday celebration like no other.
A TOPSHAM hotel, which is highly significant in the lives of three brothers, is to play host to a birthday celebration like no other.
Twins David and Michael Scotter, who were born in the Globe Hotel, on Fore Street, in 1944, are making a nostalgic trip back to the place to celebrate their 65th birthday next month.
David now lives in Derby and Michael in Stowmarket, Suffolk. The pair, on Saturday, July 4, will be joined by their younger sibling, 60-year-old Ray, who was born in nearby White Street, Topsham.
Their parents, Jim and Rose Scotter, both originated from Yorkshire.

Ray, now living in Derbyshire, said he was not sure of the exact details why his brothers were born in the hotel.
The former Exmouth Grammar School pupil said: "My dad was sent to St Loye's College in Exeter because he was badly disabled through polio when he was a child.

"I don't know what the reasons were for my mum being down here but I know that my parents eventually married in Devon."
He added: "I presume they were put up in the hotel during the war because, I guess, in those days you just did what you were told.
"We had a relatively poor family so we were out working from as young as ten-years-old doing anything we could.
"Between the three of us, at the time we probably did every butcher, grocery, milk and paper-round going.
"We will be in Topsham for the weekend and will meet a few old friends who want to see us to reflect on old memories.
"We've been in touch with the people who live in our old house on White Street and are going to have a look around there to reminisce on old days.
