BRIXINGTON residents met face-to-face with Exmouth police when officers held a community action day following a recent spate of anti-social behaviour in the area.

After the police successfully dealt with the two culprits responsible for making residents' lives a misery, officers last week went back to the area to give residents the chance to discuss any other concerns or issues about Brixington.

Officers braved torrential rain and knocked on 380 doors in and around Sycamore Close, and the neighbouring roads, offering a host of other services to residents.

Some 12 police home crime prevention checks and 22 requests for home fire safety checks were made by residents.

Some 10 requests were made to see a police community support officer about community issues, two were received for Devon Care and Repair and two were made relating to district council issues.

Community Safety Officer Gerry Moore, who organised the event for the Community Safety Partnership, said the police will return to the area to call at the homes where residents were out.

He said all homes called at received community safety leaflet packs through the door.

Mr Moore said the district council's Street Scene and REACT teams also attended and carried out a general clean-up of the area.

Gerry Moore said: "I am delighted that, despite the appalling conditions, we achieved what we set out to do.

"We were able to show the public that we are interested in their welfare and continuing to work together in partnership is clearly the way forward.
