Sightings of friendly dolphin ‘George’ continue in the East Devon area. Have you spotted him? Let the Journal know
George the friendly dolphin has been keeping the crew of an Exmouth fishing trawler company as they fished for scallops off Branscombe.
Spotted in nearby Beer last week, the 10-foot long dolphin, which craves human company, spent several hours shadowing the 15-metre trawler Sarah Jane, from Exmouth.
Skipper Geoff Ingram said witnessing the dolphin’s antics were a first in three decades of fishing. He said: “George spent several hours with us, at times surfacing right beside us.
“When our dredges, which have orange floats to the back of them, came to the surface, he was following the gear just below the surface, chasing the orange floats - something I have never seen in over 30 years fishing out of Exmouth.”
