BUDLEIGH Salterton's Gala Week has attracted a record number of visitors keen to take part in the week of fun-filled events.The wet weather has failed to dampen spirits - even though the Lion's Club has been forced to reschedule some of the children's events.Lion Geoff Paver said he was stunned by the number of people joining in the fun."The weekend was absolutely superb and there were record numbers in all the events," he said. "It's just unfortunate we have had to reschedule things for the children."I don't know why we have had record attendances - I think it must be word of mouth."This weekend's weather is supposed to be nice so hopefully we will get a lot of people for the fun run."It really has been a wonderful week. I can't thank people enough for their support - long may it continue!" Some 450 people took part in Sunday's family treasure hunt, the dog show, on The Green, attracted record numbers, and 94 youngsters showed off their drawing skills in the children's pavement artist competition.Gala Week comes to a close on Sunday, June 1, and there are still plenty of activities before it ends.Yesterday's children's cycle competition had to be postponed because of the wet weather and has been rescheduled for 10am tomorrow ( Friday, May 30), at St Peter's Primary School.Today's entertainment includes a table top sale, family fun swim, discover Budleigh town walk, a bowls open day and Exeter Morris men dancing along the seafront.Cash bingo, a dance workshop, a bumper all-day sale, tea dancing and a horse race evening have been planned throughout Friday and Saturday.The popular family fun run, organised by Budleigh Salterton Chamber of Commerce, leaves the Lime Kiln car park at noon on Sunday.For those looking for a more relaxing way to end gala week, the Feather Hotel is holding a quiz night from 8pm.
