A flotilla of fundraisers is being invited to take to the River Exe again to raise money for charity.

The fifth annual Oxfam Exeter to Exmouth Kayak Rally, sponsored by Graham Sykes Insurance, will be held on May 9.

Organised by Nick Webber and a team of volunteers at Exe Sailing Club, the rally is open to paddlers of all ages and capabilities.

Setting off from Exeter basin between 8am and 9am, the fleet will stop at The Turf for refreshments before finishing at Exe Sailing Club between 12pm and 1pm.

Food and drink and a raffle will be available to greet all those who take part, and the top fundraiser will also receive a special prize.

The club is hoping to surpass last year’s record of 193 paddlers, who raised a grand total of £1,700 for Oxfam.

Full safety cover will be provided, with officials patrolling the canal section and safety boats escorting kayakers on the river.

There will be an entrance fee of £10 per craft or sponsorship with a dedicated online facility.
