A MEMORIAL fund to pay for a lasting tribute to the Town Crier Garth Gibson, who died last month, will be set up.
The town council's General Purposes and Regeneration Committee have already agreed in principle to set up the fund.
And the basic principles on how the fund is to be managed is to be determined at a meeting of the full council next week.
Although nothing has been finalised, ideas already put forward have range from a tribute in either Phear Park or Manor Gardens in include a memorial oak tree or statue.
The process, which is set to be rubberstamped on Monday evening, will include an appeal for donations - and a cut out form and an appeal for ideas will be published in the Journal.
The campaign will run until September 30 and a panel made up of members of Garth's family, the mayor, councillors and the editor of the Journal will be set up to adjudicate how the money will be spent.
