THE final few days of Budleigh Salterton Gala Week have been a whirlwind of entertainment as hundreds flocked to the town to drink in every last drop of family fun.Although some events were postponed and rescheduled because of wet weather, the rain could not dampen the spirit of the event. Gala week chairman Geoff Paver said: "There was a terrific atmosphere in the town. I would like to thank everybody for understanding that we had to change things because of the weather."Youngsters turned to pedal power in an attempt to win the cycling competition's cash prize, organised by police community support officers.Parents' handicraft, creativity and sewing skills were given the opportunity to shine at the Budleigh Salterton Scouts' children's fancy dress parade.Budleigh Salterton group scout leader Alan Lowe said 11-14 class winner Saphra Hogdon, from London, had been entering the parade since she was four years old."All the costumes were handmade. Everyone put a lot of effort into it," said Mr Lowe. "It's so difficult to judge. They are all so good."Creepy-crawlies, snakes and spiders attracted many youngsters to the Venture Hall for the Really Wild World show where they were invited to get up close to some wild and whacky creatures.The town's chamber of commerce family fun run heralded the end of gala week as 138 children and adults pulled on their running shoes.* To see a video of this year's fun run visit the Journal's website www.exmouthjournal.co.ukPauline Swannell, of the Chamber of Commerce, said: "It was brilliant.
